Maternal-Fetal Medicine Sonographer
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer to join our prenatal care team. As an MFM Sonographer, you will serve as the critical imaging specialist for high-risk pregnancies, working closely with Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians to provide essential diagnostic information that guides patient care decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Perform all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician
- Perform comprehensive ultrasound procedures including 1st trimester exams, nuchal translucency measurements, 2nd trimester detailed anatomic surveys, 3rd trimester ultrasounds, and maternal and fetal Doppler studies (MCA, umbilical artery, ductus venosus, and uterine artery)
- Conduct biophysical profiles and fetal growth assessments
- Assist physicians during invasive diagnostic testing procedures (e.g., amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling) by providing precise and optimal ultrasound visualization
- Acquire and analyze data obtained using ultrasound and related diagnostic technologies
- Utilize various ultrasound imaging techniques (transabdominal, transvaginal, 3D/4D, Doppler) to evaluate fetal and uterine physiology
- Apply knowledge of high-resolution ultrasound with color and spectral Dopplers to evaluate fetal anomalies
Technical & Administrative Duties
- Accurately ensure correct patient identification
- Obtain patient history and explain examination procedures to patients
- Use independent judgment and systematic problem-solving methods to produce high-quality diagnostic information
- Prepare comprehensive documentation and preliminary reports for physician interpretation
- Operate and maintain specialized ultrasound equipment, including Trophon sterilization equipment
- Perform quality control and routine maintenance on equipment
- Report equipment malfunctions and take appropriate corrective action
- Maintain room preparation, clean-up, and equipment sterilization as needed
- Stock and replenish ultrasound supplies
- Participate in data collection for research studies when applicable
- Maintain required continuing education for licensure and certification
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program (Associate's degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred)
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification through ARDMS required
- Specialty certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) required (or registry-eligible achieving within 6 months of hire)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required
- Nuchal Translucency and CLEAR certification preferred
- Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in obstetric imaging, with MFM experience preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in high-risk obstetric imaging techniques
- Experience assisting with invasive procedures including amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform portable examinations requiring movement of ultrasound equipment to various locations
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $82,500.00 - $136,340.00 per year
