Job summary

University of Michigan is seeking a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment and for communicating results of diagnostic examinations with exceptional patient care. You will manage daily department operations, patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, QA reporting, and maintain high medical ethics while expanding knowledge in the field.

The role requires ARDMS certification, CAAHEP-accredited education, and the ability to train staff.

Qualifications

  • Registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers is necessary within 6 months of hire date.
  • Certification of Abdomen, OB-GYN, and Pediatrics is required within 12 months of hire date
  • This classification requires Primary Source Verification
  • Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.
  • Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in both ABD and OB-GYN.
  • 1-year Inpatient hospital environment.

Responsibilities

  • To perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physician; and to select and set up ultrasound equipment.
  • Review patient's clinical history.
  • Explain processes to patients and assist in positioning patients for required scan.
  • Adjust equipment controls according to specific orders and areas of the body to be examined.
  • Operate ultrasound diagnostic equipment, observing sound wave display screen to note ultrasonic pattern produced.
  • Produce visual images of organs shown on display module to obtain permanent records of internal examination.
  • Attach identification tag to photographs or recorder printout.
  • Set up and adjust equipment using operator tuning adjustment.
  • Perform operator maintenance of ultrasound equipment.
  • Train, instruct and demonstrate the operation of the ultrasound equipment to staff, medical students, physicians, and other professional medical personnel.
  • Maintain necessary records concerning patients.
  • Discuss scan results with radiologists.

Job Summary

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for the performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography while demonstrating exceptional patient care. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the sonographic department, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).The sonographer always maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

RELATED DUTIES

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General supervision is received from a physician or designated supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXCERCISED

Functional supervision may be exercised over assigned assistants.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

Required Qualifications*
