BronxCare Health System is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist to perform comprehensive ultrasound examinations including abdomen, pelvis, obstetrical, vascular and neonatal brain studies. You will supervise ultrasound students and Radiology residents, provide verbal preliminary reports to MDs, and participate in quality improvement activities.

The role requires NY state licensure, one year of ultrasound experience, and training in ultrasound systems.

Overview

Performs ultrasound exams (including on portable equipment) of abdomen, pelvis, major vessels, small parts (including breast, thyroid, testicular, popliteal, pyloric stenosis and appendicitis studies) and neonatal brains. Instructs and provides clinical supervision to ultrasound students and Radiology residents in specific area of expertise. Gives verbal preliminary reports of sonogram results to M.D.

• Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities, support of and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, consistent adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the BronxCare Health System (a) Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence Reporting, (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and (d) Patient and Customer Service.
• Perform ultrasound exams (including on portable equipment) of abdomen, pelvis, major vessels, small parts (including breast, thyroid, testicular, pylorus and appendix studies), neonatal brains and Obstetrical studies.
• Perform Doppler studies of the carotids, abdomen, pelvis, small parts and peripheral vascular.
• Perform intra-cavity ultrasound studies (endovaginal and endorectal).
• Perform localizations for invasive procedures under ultrasound guidance.
• Schedule patients for sonography and arrange for patients to be prepped.
• Effectively utilize the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance to hospital policy.
• Instruct and provide clinical supervision to ultrasound students and Radiology residents in specific area of expertise. Gives verbal preliminary reports of sonogram results to M.D.
• Assessment, treatment and patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
• Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• Function independently with regard to individualizing each exam relative to clinical history. Transport patients to and from Ultrasound as required. Provide patient comfort (e.g., bedpans, blankets) as required.
• Keep current regarding developments in trends and techniques of diagnostic sonography by reading technical journals, participating in in-service education programs, attending conferences, etc.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
