Job summary

Merrimack Health is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist to perform ultrasound procedures, produce diagnostic images, and support licensed physicians in interpretation. The role covers patients from newborns to geriatrics in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Candidates should have ARDMS RDMS and/or ARRT certifications, BLS, and 1–3 years experience (preferred). Excellent communication, patient care, and safety awareness are essential, with flexibility for overtime and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Formal ultrasound training or ARDMS-equivalent per ARDMS guidelines.
• ARDMS RDMS and/or ARRT Sonography with RT(S) designation; BLS required.
• Vascular tech certifications (RVT, RT(VS)) valuable but not mandatory.
• 1–3 years experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform ultrasound procedures and generate diagnostic images for interpretation.
• Provide appropriate patient care across newborn to geriatric populations.
• Maintain equipment and ensure radiation safety and patient positioning.
• Support orientation/clinical education of radiography students as needed.

Job description

Provides health care services, imaging modality to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs ultrasound procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by; or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Provides appropriate patient care (newborn, infant, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric.

Qualifications:

• Education: Satisfactory completion of a formal Ultrasound training program or equivalent training as specified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
• Certification/Licensure:
  • Certification by ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography) with RDMS designation and/or current ARRT registered certification Sonography with RT (S) designation.
  • BLS required.
  • For technologist primarily performing vascular sonography: current ARDMS registered certification in Vascular Technology with RVT designation and/or current CCI registered certification as a Registered Vascular Specialist with RVS designation and/or current ARRT registered certification Vascular Sonography with RT(VS) designation.
• Experience: One to three years’ experience preferred, but not required.
• Other Skills: Knowledge of diagnostic ultrasound procedures, equipment operation, radiation safety, positioning techniques, patient transfers, good communication skills, ability to handle multiple tasks/projects, ethical and professional conduct, good understanding of age-related developmental issues of pediatrics and geriatrics. Flexibility to work overtime as needed as well as on-call duty, weekend rotations. Interest in participating in orientation/clinical education of student radiographers in accordance with clinical education center guidelines for radiologic technology program(s).
