Job summary

Brooklyn Gastroenterology & Endoscopy in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a Per Diem Ultrasound Tech - Sonographer to perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations and support physicians.

You will operate ultrasound equipment, prepare patients, and maintain equipment while ensuring safety, accuracy, and high-quality image capture.

Minimum qualifications include RDMS, accredited program, state licensure, and EMR proficiency; prior hospital experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program.
  • RDMS certification or equivalent.
  • Valid state licensure or certification as required by the state of employment.
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate ultrasound equipment and perform diagnostic imaging procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations on patients according to established protocols and physician orders.
  • Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, answering questions, and ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring it is functioning properly and reporting any malfunctions.
  • Analyze images for quality and accuracy, documenting findings and assisting physicians with preliminary interpretations.
  • Maintain detailed patient records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and privacy standards.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to discuss findings and contribute to patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Stay current with advances in ultrasound technology and best practices through continuing education and training.

About the Role:

The Ultrasound Tech - Sonographer plays a critical role in the healthcare team by performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. This position requires the ability to operate sophisticated ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality images of patients’ internal organs, tissues, and blood flow. The sonographer must ensure patient comfort and safety while accurately following protocols and procedures to obtain precise diagnostic information. Collaboration with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals is essential to interpret preliminary findings and contribute to patient care plans. Ultimately, the role supports improved patient outcomes through expert imaging and effective communication within the healthcare environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or equivalent credential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in specialized ultrasound areas such as abdominal sonography.

  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and imaging software.
