Qualifications

  • Registered Ultrasound Tech or board eligible; or must pass cert exam within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Organize daily workload and prioritize patient flow.
  • Maintain infection control and patient safety guidelines.
  • Verify patient ID and physician order; coordinate workflow with other departments.
  • Deliver completed studies and ensure proper documentation in PACS and records.

Summary
  • To perform Ultrasound procedures on inpatient, outpatient and emergency room patients, utilizing clinical skills, knowledge and competencies of the Ultrasound technologist position.
Responsibilities
  • A. Clinical Competency 1. Explain procedure before the start of the exam 2. Follow established protocols for all Ultrasound procedures. 3. Knowledge of protocols specific to patients' symptoms/findings 4. Organize daily workload and assigns priorities for flow of patients. 5. Follow all guidelines for infection control and patient safety 6. Ability to differentiate between normal and abnormal anatomy. 7. Maintain competency and high levels of professional standards. B. Patient Care 1. Accurately verifies patient ID, utilizing two forms of ID. 2. Verifies physician order. 3. Coordinate patient management with other department sections to ensure proper workflow and completeness of results. 4. Inform patient of delays as they occur. 5. Ensure exam is completed and patient is discharged in a safe and timely manner. C. Documentation 1. Maintain patient documentation and records, to include patient logbooks, schedule books, statistical records and exam reports. 2. Utilizes hospital computer applications to enter, view and process patient/exam data and charges. 3. Maintain and update all records required by licensing/government agencies. 4. Document daily Cidex testing results. D. Completed Studies 1. Deliver completed/coded paperwork pertinent to the procedure to the radiologist for interpretation. 2. Provide completed worksheet and adequate patient history with each procedure. 3. Check archive system for prior procedure performed at Doylestown Hospital. 4. Ensure that the current procedure and scanned documents are present in the PAC’s system. 5. Knowledge of knight-hawk and teleradiology units, and their functions.
Credentials
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • Current BLS certification
Education or Equivalent Experience
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • graduated from an AMA approved, one-year minimum Ultrasound tech program Registered Ultrasound Tech or board eligible, OR One year from hire date to pass a certifying exam
