Summary

A professional Sonographer who works closely with physicians, nurses and cardiologists to accurately diagnose medical disorders and perform high quality Cardiac Ultrasound studies, including Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE), Stress Echocardiograms (SE, DOB SE) with and without pharmacologic agents, assists physicians in Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE) and specialty exams which would include either Pediatric Echocardiograms or Vascular Ultrasound utilizing current technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Perform adult cardiac ultrasound exams (TTE, TEE, SE and DOB SE) following a set protocol according to guidelines and standards set by Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) and the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE).
  • Perform specialty exams: Pediatric cardiac ultrasound exams on neonates, pediatrics and adolescents following a set protocol set by the laboratory; or perform vascular ultrasound exams including carotid ultrasound, upper and lower extremities, ultrasound guidance, aorta, ABI/PVR following protocols set by the laboratory.
  • Demonstrate correct use of controls to enhance image quality and optimize visualization of all structures.
  • Accurately perform all necessary calculations needed for diagnosis of cardiovascular abnormalities and have a clear understanding of all disease states.
  • Understand when to activate a CRITICAL FINDINGS worksheet and follow through on the procedure.
  • Explain the procedure to the patient in a clear and concise manner so that the patient fully understands.
  • Maintain a calm demeanor during all phases of exams.
  • Assist the physician with software programs on the Ultrasound systems for troubleshooting or selecting images at the end of exams.
  • Demonstrate ability to access the Centricity Report system and enter all pertinent data and technologist interpretation filling in all required fields.
  • Enter all pertinent data in the electronic patient log (pre and post‑exam) – appropriate information for the correct patient and type of exam.
  • Observe and report promptly to the Department Supervisor or Biomedical Department of any unusual occurrences or malfunctions of equipment.
  • Properly clean the TEE probe following the procedure according to lab protocol.
  • Maintain and clean laboratory or ultrasound equipment on a daily basis or as needed; ensure adequate supplies by maintaining an ongoing inventory system.
  • Provide customer service, demonstrating a cheerful friendly manner while on duty.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for actions, flexibility in work assignments and acceptance of changes in assignments in the spirit of good teamwork.
  • Display a positive attitude, address conflicts privately, treat others with respect and dignity.
  • Keep in‑services, training, credentials current and be competent with Informational Technology skills as it relates to this position.
Credentials

Education or Equivalent Experience

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Education specialization: Physical or Biological Sciences.
  • And 1+ years minimum of twelve months of echocardiography practice experience and the performance of at least 600 echocardiogram/Doppler examinations.
  • Education specialization: CAAHEP accredited ultrasound or CVT program.
  • Pediatric echocardiography experience. Hospital setting.
