ULTRASOUND TECH III - BREAST CARE & IMAGING CENTER

The Ultrasound Technologist III is a registered professional under the Administrative Director and Technical Supervisor’s direction who performs routine procedures in the department, including screening and diagnostic breast ultrasound, ultrasound guided core biopsies/aspirations, and ultrasound guided localizations as well as basic computer and clerical functions. The ultrasound technologist displays and practices a work-style reflecting the mission, vision, and values of the Hoag Breast Center, as well as those of the Organizations and participates in the continuous quality improvement process.

Good interpersonal and communication skills, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures, infection control, and the ability to follow direction.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs both breast ultrasound screening and diagnostic exams.
  2. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures, including the use of specialized instrumentation and equipment, Quality Control requirements, and preventive maintenance.
  3. Documents all equipment malfunctions and performs service recovery.
  4. Performs advanced ultrasound procedures including ultrasound guided biopsies, aspirations, and localizations.
  5. Possesses the skill required to perform ultrasound exams of a special or highly sophisticated nature, and is able to act as a facilitator/teacher of technique.
  6. Clinical Care: Ensure that quality patient care is delivered to all patients and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and the philosophy and goals of Hoag.
  7. When called upon can assess, plan, and implement the daily patient schedule and delivery of patient care, problem solve, troubleshoot equipment problems, and demonstrate supervisory skills.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  1. Graduate of an ARDMS approved program or equivalent.
  2. ARDMS registered or pending in the specialty of Breast within 6 months of hire.
  3. Current Driver’s License.
  4. Five (5) years continuous ultrasound experience, preferably within an ambulatory and acute healthcare environment.
  5. Completion of first level supervisory/lead training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  6. Excellent communication skills, customer-focused, high attention to detail, able to prioritize tasks and meet any deadlines, able to work in a team environment.
  7. Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
