Overview

Ultrasound Technologist, Covenant Health Diagnostics-South Knoxville

PRN/OCC, Variable Hours, Day shift

Position Summary:

Performs routine and specialized ultrasound procedures as defined by physicians. Operates ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality images and maintains a safe ultrasound environment at all times.

Responsibilities
  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures under a licensed medical practitioner's order.
  • Ensures examination orders are complete and contain relevant information.
  • Conducts patient assessments and documents clinical information and findings for physician review.
  • Identifies limitations of examinations and reviews images to synthesize results and prepare preliminary findings.
  • Documents incidental findings impacting patient safety or care.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills, including addressing age-specific patient needs.
  • Manages supplies, stock maintenance, and vendor orders following established processes.
  • Operates and performs quality control on ultrasound equipment, producing high-quality images.
  • Screens patients, obtains history, and verifies consents as needed.
  • Performs quality imaging procedures and assists physicians during ultrasound procedures.
  • Follows policies for medication use, time-out procedures, aseptic techniques, and infection control.
  • Provides patient education and instructions to ensure cooperation and minimize anxiety.
  • Positions patients and equipment for optimal imaging, respecting safety and comfort.
  • Provides comprehensive patient care during procedures, including monitoring and assessment.
  • Maintains confidentiality of records per HIPAA guidelines.
  • Participates in ongoing education, quality improvement, and safety initiatives.
  • Ensures accurate data entry and record maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Education: Sufficient to meet licensing and certification standards at the time of issuance.

Minimum Experience: Clinical training with certification and at least three years of ultrasound experience; vascular certification and breast imaging experience preferred.

Licensure Requirement: Maintains ARDMS, ARRT (S), ARRT (VS), or CCI licensure, and state licensure per Tennessee guidelines.
