Ultrasound Tech, Cumberland Women's Healthcare

Full Time, 80 hours per pay period, Day shift

Perinatal Center Overview:

At Fort Sanders Perinatal Center, we’re here for women with pregnancies that require extra care, and we’re ready to help you make the best healthcare decisions from conception through delivery. For more than 25 years, we’ve provided comprehensive high-risk pregnancy services and delivered over 26,000 high-risk babies at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. We offer a range of care services for higher-risk pregnancies, including mothers over age 35, multiples, complications, birth defects, issues such as diabetes or hypertension, or pregnancies after infertility.

Our main office is located at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. We also have offices in West Knoxville, Morristown, and Sevierville to ensure you get the right care in the right place. We are proud to be a member of Covenant Health.

Position Summary:

Performs physician-defined routine and specialized ultrasound procedures. Operates ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality images. Maintains a safe ultrasound environment at all times.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs procedures or examinations under the order of a licensed medical practitioner for diagnostic interpretation.
  2. Ensures the sonography examination order is complete and contains relevant information.
  3. Conducts patient clinical assessment.
  4. Obtains and documents pertinent clinical information and technical findings for review by the physician for order clarification and follow-up.
  5. Identifies and documents any limitations to the sonography examination. Reviews images, synthesizes results, and prepares preliminary findings for physician interpretation.
  6. Documents incidental findings that might impact patient safety or care.
  7. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, including addressing the age-specific needs of patients.
  8. Follows established processes for supply charging, stock maintenance, and vendor ordering.
  9. Operates ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality images, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  10. Selects appropriate equipment and data manipulation to achieve desired results.
  11. Proficient in operation and quality control of ultrasound equipment specific to the work area.
  12. Identifies and screens patients, obtaining patient history and verifying consents as needed.
  13. Performs quality imaging procedures and assists physicians with ultrasound procedures when needed.
  14. Follows policies regarding medication preparation/usage and time-out procedures for minimally invasive procedures.
  15. Practices aseptic techniques and universal precautions.
  16. Provides patient instructions and education to ensure cooperation and minimize anxiety.
  17. Positions patients and equipment to optimize imaging, respecting patient safety and comfort.
  18. Provides for the psychological and physical needs of patients during procedures, demonstrating proficiency in patient assessment and monitoring.
  19. Maintains patient confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
  20. Stays current in Basic Life Support (BLS) and performs as needed.
  21. Participates in quality improvement initiatives and completes required education.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: None specified; must meet standards for licensure and certification requirements.

Minimum Experience: Clinical training and certification appropriate to the modality and at least three (3) years of clinical ultrasound experience.

Licensure Requirement: Must have and maintain ARDMS, ARRT (S), ARRT (VS), or CCI licensure. State licensure in accordance with Tennessee guidelines.
