Job Description

Performs a variety of technical procedures that require the application of non-ionizing, high frequency ultrasonic waves for diagnosis of disease.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepares patient for examination.
  • Explains procedure in layman terms to relieve patient of anxiety.
  • Ensures patient is screened according to protocol, and assures consent for the procedure has been obtained, when necessary.
  • Positions patient on examination table for optimum testing procedure and conditions.
  • Sets-up equipment to administer the proper procedure in timely fashion.
  • Performs ultrasound procedures.
  • Recognizes significance of all structures that are visualized on the oscilloscope and differentiates artifacts from normal or pathological processes in timely manner;
  • Ensures proper views and images have been obtained and proper techniques have been employed; determines need for more extensive evaluations beyond preliminary instructions.
  • Collects all pertinent data and calculations for physician interpretation
  • Acknowledges and reviews images in computer system.
  • Ensures accuracy of all patient data. Processes imaging and prints CDs, as required.
  • Gathers previous related patient reports, as required.
  • Performs minor repairs and adjusts equipment, as required.
  • Adheres to Infection Control guidelines in the performance of duties. Maintains cleanliness of work area, equipment and accessories.
  • Performs related duties as requires

Job Qualification

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technology program, required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) required within one (1) year of employment, required.
  • Previous ultrasound technologist experience, preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, required.
