Job Summary

Join UT Southwestern as an Ultrasound Sonographer in our Radiology Department and contribute to our mission of enhancing patient care and comfort. You will perform sonographic imaging procedures using advanced ultrasound technology from Philips, GE, and Siemens. You will work with patients of all ages alongside renowned physicians, performing ultrasound-guided procedures and advanced diagnostic and vascular imaging such as MSK, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, elastography, and liver-fat quantification.

Experience and Education
  • At least 2 years of ultrasound experience preferred.
  • Associate's Degree in Ultrasound Technology or graduation from an accredited Sonography Program; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Certification from ARDMS, RVT, and BLS certification (by AHA or ARC) required by the first day of employment.
  • If hired without RVT certification, must obtain within 6 months or face termination.
Job Duties
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure proper supplies for procedures. Demonstrate resource stewardship to meet financial goals. Check equipment and notify for repairs. Respond promptly to inquiries. Engage in workload distribution and training of new employees and students. Perform quality control and attend meetings and training. Complete required courses on time. Follow departmental policies on time, attendance, dress code, and ID badges. May assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor. Participate in compliance activities.
  • Verify patient identity using two identifiers per hospital policy. Communicate professionally with patients, ensure proper preparation, verify protocols, and answer questions. Evaluate patient history and symptoms. Instruct patients and/or families about procedures and assess their ability to tolerate exams. Maintain current knowledge and skills across age groups: newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric.
  • Perform color duplex imaging (carotid, extremity venous and arterial, abdominal Doppler, small parts, OB/GYN, general abdominal). Use Doppler and plethysmographic techniques for arterial and venous evaluations. Verify requisitions and ensure proper labeling of images. Administer contrast as needed and monitor for adverse reactions. Complete exams and documentation promptly, and forward to radiologists.
  • Monitor and train students, assist in training new staff, participate in QA/QC, and contribute to accreditation processes. Organize and participate in conferences and technical meetings. Arrange for equipment maintenance and repairs.
