Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program
• 1 year of relevant work experience (as applicable)
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer certification (as applicable)

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions
• Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings
• Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed
• Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view
• Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves
• Operates ultrasound equipment to direct high-frequency sound waves and form diagnostic images
• Views the screen during the scan and selects images for physician review
• Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes results in preliminary reports
• Keeps patient records and maintains equipment
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information
• Complies with safety and quality procedures
• Performs other duties as assigned
