[Principal / Senior Staff Ultrasound Imaging & Systems Architect - Global Innovation Lab]
(Hybrid or Remote within the US)
About Us & The Global Innovation Lab
Samsung Healthcare is rapidly transforming the global medical imaging landscape. Having solidified our position as a Global Top 4 leader in diagnostic ultrasound, we are making unprecedented R&D investments to lead the premium General Imaging (Radiology) and Cardiovascular segments in the United States.
To accelerate this vision, we are expanding our US-based Global Innovation Lab- an elite, agile R&D hub modeled to empower world-class engineers right where they are. Combining the speed and autonomy of a pioneering innovation lab with the global scale and resources of Samsung, the Global Innovation Lab serves as the strategic bridge between North American clinical excellence and our global R&D headquarters.
The Opportunity
We are seeking visionary Principal and Senior Staff Ultrasound Architects & Scientists to join our US Global Innovation Lab.
In this high-impact role, you will hold end-to-end technical authority to architect next-generation ultrasound platforms. You will collaborate directly with premier US academic medical centers (KOLs) and lead cross-continental engineering initiatives to push the boundaries of B-mode spatial/contrast resolution, next-gen beamforming, tissue elastography, and AI-guided interventional workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Next-Gen Image Formation & Beamforming: Architect and optimize the full ultrasound signal path from transmit to display, spearheading breakthroughs in Software (SW) Beamforming, Synthetic Aperture (In-Focus) imaging, and high-frame-rate coherent compounding.
- Advanced Signal & Post-Processing: Lead the development of proprietary image enhancement, speckle reduction, and dynamic tissue contrast algorithms that set new industry benchmarks in General Imaging and Cardiology.
- Quantitative Ultrasound & Elastography: Drive next-generation Shear Wave Elastography (SWE), attenuation/dispersion imaging, and multiparametric liver/breast quantification from concept to clinical validation.
- AI-Driven Image-to-Action & Robotics: Pioneer real-time embedded AI guidance, automated 6-DOF probe tracking, and intelligent workflow solutions tailored for radiology and interventional procedures.
- Global Technical Leadership & KOL Collaboration: Act as the key technical bridge between US R&D and Korea HQ. Partner directly with leading US Academic KOLs to deploy pre-release research prototypes, support RF data collection, and translate clinical feedback into commercial excellence.
Qualifications
Required:
- Education: M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Acoustics, Computer Science, Physics, or a closely related field.
- Experience: 8+ years (12+ years for Principal level) of hands-on industry R&D experience in diagnostic medical ultrasound imaging systems.
- Technical Mastery: Proven track record as a technical lead or sole contributor in at least one of the following core domains:
- Ultrasound front-end/back-end architecture, SW Beamforming, and Synthetic Aperture techniques.
- Advanced acoustic signal processing, B-mode/Doppler optimization, and post-processing filters.
- Acoustic radiation force (ARFI) / Shear Wave Elastography physics and signal path implementation.
- Real-time medical image computing, deep learning reconstruction, or image-guided therapy/robotics.
- System Integration: Strong experience in probe-to-system integration, clinical image quality tuning and bringing premium ultrasound platforms from early prototype to FDA clearance and commercial launch.
Preferred
- Experience leading cross-functional or cross-regional engineering teams (US and Global HQ collaboration).
- Strong publication record or experience collaborating directly with Academic KOLs on investigator-initiated or multi-center clinical studies.
Why Join Samsung’s Global Innovation Lab?
- True Technical Autonomy: Enjoy full ownership of technical decision-making and architectural direction without bureaucratic bottlenecks, backed by HQ’s dedicated R&D funding.
- Direct Clinical Impact: Work side-by-side with top-tier US radiologists and clinical researchers to see your algorithms and prototypes transform patient care in real time.
- Top-Tier Compensation & Flexibility: Competitive executive-level base salary, performance incentives, comprehensive healthcare/retirement benefits, and flexible location arrangements across key US med-tech hubs (WA, MA, CA, NJ).
