Job description

Registered Cardiovascular Sonographer

Summary:

Registered Cardiovascular Sonographerprovides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures according to established policy and procedure. Performs all required ultrasound and clinical evaluations at a technical level not requiring direct supervision.Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images.

Education: RDCS certification required.Associates Degree and/or Bachelors Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography preferred. Must have or be able to obtain CPR certification within 6 months.

Experience: Prior experience using computer software, preferably electronic medical records.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform Ultrasound exams to include: Echocardiograms, Abdominal Ultrasound (ABD, RUQ, and Renal), Pelvis Ultrasound (Transabdominal and Transvaginal), Small parts Ultrasound (Thyroid, Scrotum, various areas of interest), Lower Extremity Arterial Doppler, Lower Extremity Venous Doppler, Extracranial Doppler, Vascular/Cardiac Pedoff, TCD, Upper Extremity Arterial Doppler, Upper Extremity Venous Doppler, and Renal Artery Doppler.
  • Efficient in operating ECHO equipment, selecting the right technical factors for obtaining highest quality ultrasound images.
  • Order ultrasound supplies. Keep work area clean and stocked with necessary supplies. Assure equipment is in good working order and notify supervisor of any malfunctions.
  • Assure images and preliminary information are delivered to reading physicians as soon as possible, but no later than the end of the work day. Currently images are sent through the Cardiac and Radiology PACS systems.
  • Assure diagnostic reports are received for ultrasound studies in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for filling out correct imaging tracker form for each exam done each day.
  • Adheres to infection control guidelines
  • Communicates effectively to the patient at his/her level of understanding.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times; adheres to HIPAA guidelines
  • Maintain current credentials (registry certifications) for ECHO.
  • Maintain appropriate CME's that are required by appropriate accreditation bureaus.
  • Ensure smooth patient flow throughout the office by assisting in other areas when needed or as requested.
  • Promotes positive public relations to patients, visitors, families, physicians, and others. Exhibits characteristics consistent with CPC values for quality, respect, teamwork, and pride.
  • Physical appearance and conduct is consistent with acceptable professional ethics and CPC standards.
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes and making suggestions for improvement
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Equipment Operated: Will use basic office equipment such as a computer, printer, copier, and fax machine. Will also use medical equipment such as an ultrasound machine.

Work Environment: Well lit medical office environment

Mental/Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift at least 10 lbs.

Sitting 60% of the time

Standing/walking 40% of the time
