Job Summary

Performs diagnostic cardiac and/or vascular ultrasound exams on assigned patients efficiently and kindly to provide data for diagnosis of a wide variety of medical problems. Evaluates exams for diagnostic quality while using professional judgment.

Essential Duties

1. Effectively use the hospital information system and cardiovascular information system to process and review patient information and studies.
2. Operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment to complete a variety of cardiac and vascular procedures, operate related patient monitoring equipment, and ensure equipment is functioning.
3. Produce quality diagnostic exams, adjusting technical factors, scanning parameters, and patient positioning as required.
4. Provide basic care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
5. Assume call status as needed during off‑hours for emergency procedures.
6. Maintain knowledge of criteria and intervene appropriately for urgent abnormal echoes or vascular studies that would change the patient care plan, documenting and informing appropriate staff.
7. Apply criteria for image‑enhancing agents and complete specialty studies (stress echocardiography, TEE, pacemaker studies) in a timely manner.
8. Participate in clinical training of ultrasound students and new employees by providing instruction, supervision, and evaluation.

Qualifications – Level 1

1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Within 60 days of training completion, pass appropriate ARDMS or CCI exams to acquire credentialing (RDCS, RCS, RVT, or RVS). A second attempt is allowed, and the exam must be passed within 90 days. Genesis reimburses one physics and one technology exam.
3. If expectations are not met, a 30‑day job search within the organization is provided.

1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Credential in an appropriate specialty by ARDMS or CCI (RDCS, RCS, RVT, or RVS).

5. Cross‑train in a second specialty.
6. Maintain a second credential through ARDMS or CCI within 60 days of training completion, with a second attempt if needed and a 90‑day completion window. Genesis reimburses one physics and one technology exam.
7. Acceptable credential combinations: RDCS or RCS plus RVT or RCS; RN plus RDCS, RCS, RVT, or RVS; CCEP plus RDCS, RCS, RVT, or RVS.
8. Provide coverage in the second specialty at least 25% or as assigned.
9. Serve as a preceptor to students, new employees, and others as assigned.

Qualifications – Level 3

1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Dual credentialing by ARDMS or CCI (RDCS or RCS plus RVT or RCS; RN plus RDCS, RCS, RVT, or RVS; CCEP plus RDCS, RCS, RVT, or RVS).
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Patience, judgment, imagination, and initiative.
5. Cross‑train in Pediatric Echocardiography and maintain a pediatric credential (PE) through ARDMS.
6. Within 60 days of training completion, pass appropriate exams to acquire the credential. A second attempt is allowed, requiring successful completion within 90 days. Genesis reimburses one physics and one technology exam.
7. Acceptable credential combinations: RDCS or RCS plus RVT or RCS plus PR; RN plus RDCS, RCS, RVT, or RVS plus PE; CCEP plus RDCS, RCS, RVT, or RVS plus PE.
8. Provide coverage in the second specialty and in the Adult and Adolescent Congenital Heart program at least 25% or as assigned.
9. Perform pediatric echocardiograms as ordered.
10. Serve as a preceptor to students, new employees, and others as assigned.
