Dartmouth Health is seeking an experienced Ultrasound Sonographer for a per diem position at DHMC. You will perform advanced ultrasound exams including obstetric, gynecologic, infertility, and general imaging on GE and Philips systems.

Qualifications include an accredited sonography program and ARDMS certification with OB/GYN or AB focus. We value teamwork, ongoing learning, and strong communication with radiology staff and clinicians.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • RDMS certification within 6 months of employment; Abdomen (AB) within 1 year.
  • Active ARDMS certification in specialty areas (OBGYN or AB).
  • Experience with high-level ultrasound imaging is preferred.

Responsibilities

At Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), our Sonographers are part of a highly collaborative team, working alongside Radiology professionals, Obstetricians, Gynecologists, and Urologists in one of the most technologically advanced imaging environments in the country. This is a unique opportunity to practice at the forefront of ultrasound, supporting a wide range of specialized clinical needs.

In this role, you’ll perform a diverse mix of advanced ultrasound exams and procedures that require strong technical expertise and the ability to navigate complex cases from specialized clinics. Our Sonographers practice at the top of their license, performing sophisticated studies including high-risk obstetrics, gynecologic imaging, infertility workups, and general ultrasound—all on the latest GE and Philips systems.

This is a per diem position.


Responsibilities
  1. Selects equipment and imaging modalities, position, and prep to facilitate optimum diagnostic studies.
  2. Operates ultrasonography equipment to perform an examination. Evaluates the accuracy and quality of scan results. Reviews patient record for prior findings/test results to aid in determining exam completeness.
  3. Selects and records preliminary study results. Prepares preliminary reports using the department‑specific structured reporting system.
  4. Takes measurements and labels them.
  5. Gathers and communicates ultrasound findings to the physician for interpretation.
  6. Consults with the radiologist about unusual scans and the need for re‑scanning.
  7. Performs transducer decontamination and maintains log entries, reporting any discrepancies to the Education Coordinator.
  8. Performs duties associated with interventional (biopsy) procedures.
  9. Modifies billing fields to reflect the exam being performed.
  10. Instructs and oversees students, residents, and physician staff in the unit’s operations.
  11. Maintains Ultrasonography equipment. Recognizes malfunctions and/or need for servicing. Ensures quality control procedures are maintained and maintains orderliness of the ultrasound laboratory.
  12. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of accredited program for Diagnostic Medical Sonography and registry eligible required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience performing a wide range of general and specialty ultrasound exams preferred.
  • Experience in high‑risk OB, advanced abdominal imaging, complex infertility, and guided biopsies preferred.
  • Required to obtain Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS) certification within 6 months of employment; and Abdomen (AB) specialty required within 1 year of employment.
  • Must maintain active certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in specialty areas.
  • Possesses a broad knowledge of cross‑sectional anatomy, pathology and/or physiological data.
  • Competent in Ultrasound reporting systems.

Required Licensure/Certifications

- Radiographer NH OR Radiation Therapist NH OR Medical Imaging/Rad Ther - NH OR Sonographer NH- BLS required at hire.- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Abdomen (RDMS - AB) OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Obstetrics & Gynecology (RDMS-OBGYN) within 730 days
