Job summary

Genesis HealthCare System in the United States is seeking a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to perform OB/Gyn, abdominal and vascular ultrasound exams with efficiency, accuracy, and compassionate patient care.

You will work with HIS/RIS/PACS systems, assist in biopsies, participate in teaching and QA activities, and may take call shifts during off-hours. Certification by ARDMS is required or 5 years of ultrasound experience.

Qualifications

• Certification by ARDMS in OB/Gyn or abdominal or registry eligible within one year.
• Competence in diagnostic ultrasound procedures including invasive exams.
• Excellent interpersonal, decision-making and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure in a clinical setting.
• Proficient with HIS/RIS/PACS and related imaging software.

Responsibilities

• Operates ultrasound equipment for obstetrical, abdominal, and vascular exams.
• Assists physicians in biopsy and localization procedures.
• Produces diagnostic quality exams and optimizes technique per procedure.
• Uses HIS/RIS/PACS to process and distribute exam data.
• Assists in patient transport and in education for patients and families.
• Participates in clinical training of ultrasound students; QA/QC activities.
• May assume call status during off hours for emergencies.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Overview of Position:

Performs diagnostic ultrasound and/or vascular exams on all types of patients in an efficient and caring manner in order to provide data for the diagnosis of a wide variety of medical conditions. Evaluates exams for diagnostic quality while using professional judgment in the performance of services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Operates medical diagnostic ultrasound equipment to complete a variety of procedures including obstetrical, abdominal, and vascular exams as applicable.


• Assists physicians in fine needle biopsy and localization procedures.


• Consistently produces diagnostic quality exams, individualizing technical factors, scanning parameters and patient positioning as required by each procedure.


• Effectively uses computer systems (such as HIS, RIS, PACS) to process, access and distribute appropriate department and patient procedure information.


• Assists in transportation of patients to and from the department.


• Participates in providing education and information to patients and their families.


• Participates in clinical training of ultrasound and/or radiology students by providing instruction, supervision and evaluation as required.


• Participates in quality assurance/quality control activities as required.


• Assumes \"call status\" as necessary during off hours for emergency procedures.


• Performs other functions as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (or equivalent) in the appropriate specialty (OB/Gyn, Abdominal) or 5 years experience in diagnostic ultrasound. If registry eligible upon hire, must obtain certification within one year of employment.


• Demonstrated competence in all diagnostic ultrasound procedures including invasive exams such as ultrasound-guided biopsies.


• Excellent interpersonal, decision-making, facilitation, conflict resolution skills.


• Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.


• Ability to work independently and under pressure in a complex and changing working environment.


• Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of computer software related to electronic image and clinical information management.
