The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

The purpose of this position: Production of optical components.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate and set up diamond turning machining centers and fly cutters.
  • Operate and understand Optical test equipment such as interferometers and surface profilometers, computer generated holograms and LUPHOScans.
  • Develop and document process parameters.
  • Operate traditional inspection equipment such as toolmaker’s microscope, micrometers, height gages, and Vernier calipers.
  • Read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Analytical troubleshooting / problem solving Communicate effectively to team members and management Leading and mentoring

Requirements:

  • Must be capable of solving routine production problems as they arise
  • Problem solving independently on routine production with awareness of when assistance is needed.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to be flexible with changing work demands
  • Attention to detail and quality paramount.
  • Flexibility to work to deadlines.

Working Conditions :

  • Lifting 30 lbs.
  • Standing 50% of shift
  • Wearing protective gloves, glasses, and safety shoes
  • Exposure to Chemicals: Acetone, Alcohol, and OMS
  • Exposure to materials: Aluminum, Nickel, Zinc Sulfide, Zinc Selenide, Germanium, Indium arsenide and Silicon Polymers

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent Two-year technical degree preferable
  • 5+ years diamond turning experience writing and editing part programs
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex document

Work Hours:

  • This is a 2nd Shift, four day, 10 hours per day shift
  • Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur, 3:15 pm to 1:15 am
  • Paid lunch and $4 /hour shift differential.

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.


The range for this position is $27.00hourly rate -$35.00hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
