Job summary

Jobtailor in Ashburn, VA seeks an experienced UI/UX designer/developer to craft responsive interfaces for a Federal program. You will align design with business goals, create wireframes and prototypes, and champion accessibility and user-centered practices.

The role requires collaboration with product owners, on-site presence 1–2 days/week, and strong expertise in React/Angular, TypeScript, and modern UI tools. You will mentor teammates and deliver quality designs on schedule.

Responsibilities

• Support a complex Federal Government program providing Agile development and operations and maintenance for critical systems
• Create intuitive, user-centered designs
• Develop responsive, interactive, maintainable, efficient, and reliable user interfaces
• Develop user interfaces meeting business requirements and user needs
• Lead cohesive look-and-feel and standardized user experiences across applications
• Develop creative, user-focused experiences aligned with client business objectives
• Create experience style guides, interaction patterns, and information design standards
• Develop wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
• Communicate design ideas to stakeholders
• Establish standard layout and style libraries across applications
• Determine requirements feasibility with functional teams and collaborate on design improvements
• Ensure product quality and timely delivery
• Provide advice, guidance, problem resolution, and periodic performance reports
• Work independently within an Agile software development environment using JIRA, Confluence, GitLab, unit testing, and Harness
• Mentor junior team members
• Stay current on industry and customer trends
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and customer groups
• Use data, validation, and feedback strategies supported by qualitative and quantitative testing
• Champion new ideas while maintaining a user-centered approach and respecting business needs

Requirements

• Experience with Agile development methodologies
• Must be able to work on-site in Ashburn, VA 1–2 days per week
• Must live within the DC, MD, VA area
• U.S. Citizenship is required
• Active CBP Public Trust clearance required
• Degree in a related field, such as Interactive Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Graphic Design or Human Factors
• 5+ years’ experience in UI/UX development
• Professional experience with enterprise UI design tools such as Figma or similar tools
• Experience communicating designs with product owners, end users, development teams, and management
• Ability to understand trade-offs between designs, technical feasibility, and maintenance
• Proficiency with React, Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, HTTP, CSS, and Kendo UI
• Familiarity with Java and Spring/Spring Boot
• Familiarity with Java 17, React, UI state management, Hibernate or similar ORM, PostgreSQL, and Amazon AWS
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Harness, Jenkins, GitLab, or Bamboo
• Experience developing web applications, from consumer-facing applications to internal tools
• Experience with responsive and mobile-first development
• Ability to work effectively in an agile design environment
• Working knowledge of design tools such as Figma, Axure, Sketch, InVision, or XD
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Highly responsible, team-oriented, self-starter with very strong work ethic
• Preferred: Design Thinking certification
• Preferred: Proven experience designing for web accessibility and Section 508 standards
• Preferred: Experience with information architecture
• Preferred: Ability and interest in educating others on user-centered design best practices
• Preferred: Advanced understanding of Lean processes and Agile principles
