Salary: The previously determined range for this position was $34.36/hr to $76.13/hr. Final rate offered will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position.

This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date (RNs only).

The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care, aiming to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence-Based Practice, Relationship-Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. This role involves applying professional practice models, current standards, and clinical experience to deliver quality patient care as per established nursing standards and accreditation bodies. The nurse advocates for patients and families, develops educational plans, responds to changing needs, and collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure effective care. The role also includes participating in organizational and departmental leadership, supporting department goals, and engaging in professional development.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Develop, implement, and update the patient’s care plan based on ongoing assessments and family input.
  2. Collaborate with the healthcare team to promote effective patient care.
  3. Verify and implement orders from physicians or advanced practice providers, documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
  4. Engage with patients and families to develop educational plans.
  5. Recognize symptoms, prioritize responses, and adapt to patient needs.
  6. Delegate appropriate tasks to support personnel according to the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act, providing support and feedback.
  7. Advocate for patients, families, and the nursing profession.
  8. Use theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, and current standards to provide quality care.
  9. Assume the role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources.
  10. Mentor and support staff and students, fostering learning experiences.
  11. Commit to ongoing professional growth by identifying learning needs and pursuing development strategies.
  12. Perform pre-procedure assessments, including review of H&P, allergies, and medications.
  13. Monitor and document patient conditions before, during, and after procedures.
  14. Address pain levels, administer medications, and monitor sedation and vital signs.
  15. Assist with procedures, including setup, cleaning, and disinfection of equipment.
  16. Manage supplies, perform equipment inventory, and ensure proper documentation of procedures.
  17. Support research activities within the hospital and clinics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Current PALS certification or within 6 months of hire.
  • Required to be on call.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the endoscopy team.
  • Ability to interpret hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Self-motivated and organized.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of GI experience.
  • BSN (preferred).
  • Experience in pre- and post-procedure recovery.
  • Therapeutic endoscopy experience.
  • Pulmonary procedure experience.
