Job summary

Withers seeks a sharp Trust & Estate Planning Associate to join its Private Client and Tax Division, based in New Haven or Greenwich. You will advise ultra‑high net worth families, structure estate plans, and lead from interview through drafting, execution and follow‑up.

Ideal candidates have 4–7 years in a law firm Trusts & Estates group, are CT bar members, and can mentor junior team members while developing firm processes and client relationships.

Qualifications

• J.D. required; Connecticut bar membership required.
• 4–7 years’ experience in a law firm Trusts & Estates practice.
• Demonstrated commitment to client service and firm processes.

Responsibilities

• Familiar with estate planning for high-net-worth individuals and families.
• Structure charitable organizations and major gifts with compliance in mind.
• Lead end‑to‑end planning from initial interview to execution and follow‑up.
• Advise on irrevocable trusts (CRUTs, GRATs, IDGTs, ILITs, QPRTs).
• Prepare and review estate and gift tax returns; engage UHNW clients to design complex planning.
• Support post‑mortem trust administration and distribution stewardship.
• Contribute to business development and firm visibility through writing and networking.
