Job summary

UHC United Hospital Center is seeking an experienced surgical team member to provide intraoperative scrub support. You will assist the circulating RN, maintain sterile technique, and help with instrument handling and patient positioning.

Completion of a Surgical Technology Program and certification is required, with a potential for mentoring junior technologists. Strong preference for 1 year of surgical technology experience and advanced knowledge in the specialty.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Licensed Practical Nurse license and have 2 years of scrub experience.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• OR: Completion of a Surgical Technology Program and surgical technologist certification.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes quality aseptic technique in the OR as scrub or non-scrub partner.
• Assist circulating RN in maintaining a sterile field.
• Perform sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN.
• Assist with gowning/gloving surgeons and positioning equipment/instruments.
• Pass sterile instruments to the surgical team during procedures.
• Assist with patient transport and positioning as directed by the surgeon.
• Prepare supplies and equipment per preference cards.
• Assist with sterilization and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
• Monitor inventory, orders, and restock supplies and equipment.
• Remove outdated items and reprocess as needed.
• Participate in general department cleaning duties.
• Perform equipment checks as assigned.
• Assist with recording patient charges.
• Respond to calls within 30 minutes.
• Mentor level one technologists and support team development.
• Complete annual training related to specialty accreditation as required.

Job description

Provides intraoperative care to patients by functioning as the scrub person assisting the surgical team during an operative procedure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Current licensure as a Licensed Practical NurseANDtwo(2)years ofpreviousscrub experience,
2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within30 daysof hire date.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR LICENSURE:

OR Completion of a Surgical Technology Program AND surgical technologist certification,

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. One year of Surgical Technology experience.

4. Assists with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.
5. Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure.
6. Assists with transportation and positioning of the patients to include assisting the surgical team by holding retractors and position of operative limb under direction of surgeon.
7. Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedure following preference cards.
8. Assists with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
9. Monitors inventory; orders; and restocks supplies, instruments, and equipment.
10. Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses following established guidelines.
11. Assists with the general cleaning duties of the department.
12. Performs equipment checks as assigned.
13. Assists with the proper recording of patient charges.
14. Call with a response time of 30 minutes.
15. Serves as a mentor to the team and supports the development of level one technologists.

For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements:

1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.
