Job summary

WVU Medicine is seeking graduate nurses for its CAPE program, a system-wide clinical advancement ladder designed to enhance professional development and job satisfaction for inpatient direct care nurses.

Entry level (Level one) is available to all graduates with a diploma, ADN, BSN, or higher, including those with less than 12 months of experience. Advancement depends on meeting competency, experience, and certification requirements.

Qualifications

• No experience required.
• All graduate nurses with <12 months enter at Level 1 with a diploma, ADN, BSN, or higher.
• Level progression may require 1–2 years of experience depending on level.
• One specialty certification is preferred but not required.
• Competencies include charge nurse, precepting staff, and participation in QI or governance.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate charge nurse duties and/or precepting new staff or nursing students.
• Participate in quality improvement and shared governance at unit or organizational levels.
• Meet required competencies for progression through CAPE levels.
