UHC: Registered Nurse (RN)- Emergency Department

This position involves delivering nursing care using the nursing process, applying clinical knowledge, and exercising independent judgment to ensure quality patient outcomes. The role is within the scope of a Registered Nurse (RN) - Level I, as defined in the job description.

The nurse must demonstrate knowledge and skills at an advanced beginner level, relevant to patient care, growth, and development across the lifespan, including the ability to assess and interpret patient data for age-specific needs. The role provides professional nursing care in an inpatient hospital setting.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and Licensure:

  • Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses or appropriate state board, or multi-state licensure via eNLC.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.

Experience:

  • One (1) year of nursing experience.

  • Modify patient’s care plan based on data and individual needs.
  • Use Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) for patient care.
  • Delegate within scope of practice.
  • Verify care plans with team, patient, and caregivers.
  • Provide education tailored to learning needs and involve families.
  • Promote effective communication among healthcare team and patients.
  • Influence policies to enhance patient safety.
  • Utilize appropriate resources, especially in sensitive situations.
  • Participate in organizational growth and policy development.
  • Engage in community health promotion and practice environment improvements.
  • Recognize and implement strategies to improve nursing quality.
  • Evaluate policies and procedures for quality improvement.
  • Understand the importance of data collection and utilization.
  • Share educational findings and experiences with peers.
  • Participate in activities related to nurse-sensitive indicators.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Identify ethical issues and seek appropriate guidance.

Additional Requirements: Completion of annual education related to specialty accreditation, as per standards, through various training formats.

Physical and Environmental Demands
  • Minimize manual patient lifting; use lift equipment and aids as appropriate.
  • Work involves strength and stamina, including lifting over 40 lbs., standing, walking, and moving materials.
  • Normal visual and hearing acuity required.
  • Work in environments with biohazards, infectious diseases, and electrical hazards, often during irregular hours.
