This position has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process. The incumbent accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge skills, and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by healthcare providers to whom care is delegated to achieve quality patient care outcomes.
The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills at the novice level necessary to provide care relevant to the patient(s) under their care, as well as apply principles of growth and development over the lifespan. They must possess the ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs. This role provides professional nursing care for patients in an inpatient hospital setting.
The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned:
Must meet physical demands such as manual patient handling (minimize manual lifts to 35 pounds), strength and stamina for lifting/moving, visual and hearing acuity within normal ranges. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
Includes working protracted or irregular hours, around biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased, water, and electrical hazards.

To advance to the next level, nurses must meet experience, degree, and certification requirements, and complete annual competencies. Levels range from 1 (no experience) to 6 (extensive experience with advanced degrees).
