Position Overview

This position has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process. The incumbent accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge skills, and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by healthcare providers to whom care is delegated to achieve quality patient care outcomes. Performs the duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Registered Nurse (RN) - Level I, as defined within the job description.

The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills at the advanced beginner level necessary to provide care relevant to the patient(s) under their care, as well as apply principles of growth and development over the lifespan. The role involves providing professional nursing care for patients in an inpatient hospital setting.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
    • Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
    • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Experience: One (1) year of nursing experience.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned:

  1. Modify patient's plan of care based on data collection and individual needs.
  2. Use Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) to provide patient care.
  3. Delegate according to scope of practice.
  4. Verify the plan of care with interprofessional colleagues, patient, and caregiver(s).
  5. Provide education based on learning needs and involve family.
  6. Promote effective communication among team members and healthcare consumers.
  7. Influence policy to promote safe patient care.
  8. Utilize appropriate resources in providing care, especially in sensitive situations.
  9. Participate in developing strategies to promote healthy communities and practice environments.
  10. Recognize strategies to improve nursing quality.
  11. Evaluate policies, procedures, and guidelines to improve healthcare quality.
  12. Understand the importance of data collection and utilization.
  13. Disseminate educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers.
  14. Engage in activities related to nurse-sensitive indicators to enhance quality of care.
  15. Participate in continuing professional development.
  16. Identify ethical situations and seek appropriate colleagues' assistance.
  17. Maintain and improve an ethical environment conducive to safe, quality healthcare.
  18. Adhere to patients' moral and legal rights.
  19. Engage in opportunities for work/life balance.
Physical Requirements

Must meet physical demands, with reasonable accommodations available:

  • Minimize manual lifting; use lift equipment and aids as indicated.
  • Work requires strength and stamina, lifting/moving objects over 40 lbs.
  • Normal visual and auditory acuity required.
Working Environment
