Position Overview

Performs imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care, supporting the Radiology Department's mission to provide diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure
  • For West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland locations: Completion of an Accredited Radiography School; registration (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography; must pass boards within 6 months of hire if registry eligible; Radiologist Technologist certification through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners or applicable state; BLS certification within 30 days; State and Federal background checks as required.
  • For Pennsylvania locations: Similar requirements, with registration passing within one year of hire.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Rotate through all Diagnostic areas to develop technical skills.
  2. Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, service requests, and protocols.
  3. Produce high-quality images using imaging equipment and systems.
  4. Select appropriate exposure factors to optimize image quality and minimize radiation exposure.
  5. Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff through shielding and technique adjustments.
  6. Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging.
  7. Assess patient needs and provide support for comfort, hygiene, and mobility.
  8. Prepare contrast agents, pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays per protocols.
  9. Educate patients about radiographic procedures.
  10. Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team.
  11. Engage in problem solving and quality improvement initiatives.
  12. Adhere to ethical, departmental, and regulatory standards.
  13. Report equipment failures immediately.
  14. Complete required in-services and competencies.
  15. Position patients accurately according to protocols.
  16. Coordinate daily workflow.
  17. Supervise and instruct radiology students as appropriate.
  18. Ensure completion of all components of the imaging process.
Physical Requirements
  • Visual differentiation of shades of gray.
  • Prolonged standing and walking.
  • Wear lead aprons weighing 8-15 pounds.
  • Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Carry items up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment
  • Exposure to minimal radiation within safety standards.
  • Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
  • Operation of imaging equipment with moving parts.
Skills and Abilities
  • Positive interaction with patients and staff.

  • Ability to adapt positioning techniques as needed.
