Job description

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Underground Fixed Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance of fixed plant and underground infrastructure supporting gold mining operations. This role performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pumping, ventilation, material-handling, and other fixed systems. The technician works closely with Mining, Engineering, and Operations teams to minimize equipment downtime and maintain safe, productive underground operations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance on underground fixed plant and infrastructure.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain pumps, piping, valves, conveyors, crushers, chutes, dewatering systems, ventilation equipment, compressed-air systems, and associated infrastructure.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment faults using appropriate tools, drawings, manuals, and testing equipment.
  • Conduct equipment inspections and identify developing defects, abnormal operating conditions, and potential reliability issues.
  • Complete planned maintenance activities in accordance with maintenance schedules, work orders, OEM specifications, and site procedures.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and production-critical maintenance requirements in a timely manner.
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, modification, and upgrade of underground fixed equipment and infrastructure.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, alignment, bearing replacement, lubrication, and other mechanical maintenance activities as required.
  • Maintain and repair electrical components and systems within the technician's qualifications and site authorization.
  • Support installation and maintenance of mine dewatering, pumping, ventilation, and utility systems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, work orders, parts usage, and equipment histories.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement initiatives to improve equipment availability and reliability.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
  • Follow all mine safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, confined-space procedures, fall-protection requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Conduct pre-task risk assessments and participate in toolbox meetings, safety meetings, and site training.
  • Work effectively with other maintenance technicians, supervisors, engineers, operators, and contractors.
  • Provide clear shift handovers and communicate outstanding maintenance issues and equipment conditions.
  • Perform other maintenance duties consistent with the technician's qualifications and operational requirements.

The above responsibilities are representative and may not include all assigned duties.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED/equivalent.
  • Recognized trade qualification, apprenticeship, or technical certification in mechanical maintenance, industrial maintenance, millwright, electrical, instrumentation, or a closely related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of industrial, mining, heavy equipment, or fixed-plant maintenance experience, preferably in an underground mining environment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining fixed mining infrastructure and equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or electrical systems.
  • Practical experience with pumps, piping, conveyors, ventilation systems, dewatering systems, crushers, material-handling equipment, or similar fixed plant.
  • Experience reading mechanical drawings, schematics, equipment manuals, and maintenance documentation.
  • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Demonstrated ability to safely perform maintenance in confined, underground, and physically demanding environments.
