Job summary

Hecla Mining Company is seeking a UG Lube Technician to perform lubrication services on equipment at Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island near Juneau, AK. Daily duties include filling lubricant containers, applying lubricants to mobile and fixed equipment, and maintaining bulk lube and fuel supplies.

Job description

As our UG Lube Technician, you will perform lubrication services on equipment such as loaders, trucks, trailers, light vehicles, shaft, motor bearings and more at a remote mine to keep our production going and our profitability up. Every day you will work at a mine on an island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You'll start every day organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing work activities to ensure timely completion of projects, programs, and objectives. The majority of your average workday consists of filling containers with specified lubricants and traveling to assigned locations to apply lubricants to components of mobile and fixed equipment. To thrive in this role, you have pertinent decision‑making skills to inspect equipment, report maintenance issues, can adapt work plans, and convey project statuses to others. We’re on a remote island, you must know how to work independently, identify, and resolve problems in a timely manner.

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 500 people. Here’s What You Can Expect In This Role

• Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department‑level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well.
• You will perform preventative maintenance on mechanical and mobile equipment.
• You will maintain lube systems, as well as monitor and maintain bulk lube and fuel supplies at various locations.
• Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisors.
• Clean machines, sweep vehicle floors, and transport stock.
• Operate mobile equipment in order to ensure proper lubrication.
• Prepares appropriate paperwork and reports relating to lubrication activities, machinery problems, and work area inspections. Complies with all company and regulatory guidelines.

As a member of the Greens Creek UG Mobile Maintenance team, the incumbent is responsible to perform regular services on mechanical and mobile equipment, such as loaders, trucks, trailers, light vehicles, shaft and motor bearings, sprockets, drive chains, gears, and pulleys.

Essential Functions

• Fills containers such as oil cans, grease guns, or tanks of lubrication truck with specified lubricant and travels to assigned locations.
• Applies specified lubricants to components of mobile and fixed equipment. Maintains lube systems. Monitors and maintains bulk lube and fuel supplies at various surface locations.
• Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor. Cleans machines, sweep floors, and transports stock.
• Operates mobile equipment to ensure proper lubrication.
• Prepares appropriate paperwork and reports relating to lubrication activities, machinery problems, and work area inspections. Must comply with all company and regulatory guidelines.

• Has pertinent decision‑making skills to inspect equipment, report maintenance issues, assist in maintenance work, adapt work plans and convey project status to others.

High school diploma or equivalent. Heavy equipment maintenance experience helpful.

Work Environment & Job Schedule

Employees may be frequently exposed to; outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, potentially hazardous wildlife; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. This position may require work on nights, weekends, and rotating shifts; shift schedules may require residency in on‑island camp during work rotations.
