Job summary

Dignity Health - French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, CA is seeking a Unit Clerk/Nurse's Aide to support the nursing team with vigilant patient monitoring and seamless unit operations.

You will monitor cardiac patterns, use the HIS computer system, greet patients, maintain census logs, and assist care teams. Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety are required to provide high‑quality care.

Qualifications

• Acute care experience within the last two years.
• Nurse assistants/unit clerks without acute care experience within the last two years will be considered on an individual basis.
• Completion of education for a certified nursing assistant - CNA.
• Equivalent work experience.
• Completion of education to become a unit clerk.
• Certified Nursing Assistant: CA.
• Basic Life Support - CPR.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient-care: bathing, grooming, oral and perineal care, backrubs.
• Measure vital signs, weights and I&O on schedule.
• Safely ambulates, lifts, moves, and transports patients as delegated.
• Positions patients and performs range of motion exercises.
• Maintains clean patient-care area. Completes delegated unit assignments.
• Reports observations regarding patient status to the RN.

As our Unit Clerk/Nurse's Aide, you will provide essential support to the nursing team, ensuring continuous, vigilant patient monitoring, and fostering collaborative relationships for quality healthcare services.

Every day you will provide continuous observation of cardiac monitor patterns, recognizing and communicating significant changes. You will proficiently use the H.I.S. computer system, serve as a unit representative, greet patients, maintain census logs, and support team members in the care of adult patients. You will also actively build collaborative relationships across disciplines.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a strong commitment to patient care, meticulous attention to detail for monitoring, and proficiency in healthcare information systems. You will take responsibility for your competency, continuously evaluate performance, and stay informed of developments in nursing and your clinical specialty.
