The UAV Technician I is responsible for the assembly, integration, and testing of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and their subsystems. This role requires proficiency in assembly processes outlined in standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as the ability to perform testing and troubleshooting to ensure the functionality and reliability of sub-assemblies and fully assembled aircraft. As part of the role, the UAV Technician I may be required to interact with customer systems at an operational level, assisting with integration, validation, and system checks as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assembly and Integration Operations:

  • Perform hands-on assembly of UAV systems, including avionics, airframes, propulsion systems, sensors, and payloads, following detailed SOPs and technical documentation.
  • Assemble and integrate avionics hardware, including wiring harnesses, circuit boards, flight controllers, GPS modules, communication devices, and other critical components.
  • Carry out final assembly of UAV systems, verifying alignment, fit, and functionality.

Testing and Quality Assurance:

  • Conduct functional testing of UAV sub-assemblies to ensure they meet performance and quality standards.
  • Perform complete system testing, including software/firmware installation, system calibration, and communication link checks (e.g., ground control-to-aircraft).
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in both hardware and software, documenting findings and collaborating with engineers to ensure successful resolution.
  • Use precision tools, diagnostic equipment, and multimeters to validate system performance.
  • Generate test and inspection reports to document test processes and outcomes.

Customer Interaction:

  • Interface with customer systems or their representatives to assist in UAV integration and compatibility validation.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and customers to ensure requirements are met and that technical information is conveyed clearly.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of assembly, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Review technical documentation, including blueprints, schematics, and test procedures, ensuring compliance with all manufacturing and testing standards.
  • Provide feedback to improve technical documents, assembly procedures, and test processes.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and overall functionality of UAV assembly and testing operations.
  • Participate in team discussions to optimize workflows and adopt new manufacturing or testing techniques.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow all safety guidelines and protocols while conducting assembly, testing, and customer-facing activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable standards and regulations in UAV manufacturing, testing, and operation.
Qualifications
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills are necessary.

Working Conditions

Must be able to tolerate outside work environment. Must be physically fit to walk for extensive periods of time. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and handle small parts or tools for extended periods. Individuals may need to reach over shoulder heights; bend or stoop below the waist; preform repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement; occasional lifting to 100 pounds (as team lift).
