Job summary

Unusual Machines, a U.S.-based drone company, seeks a Configuration & Product Definition Engineer to own the technical definition, configuration, and data for UAV propulsion motors. You will collaborate with motor design, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and procurement to manage variants, BOMs, winding configurations, material selections, and customer-specific configurations.

This role connects engineering and procurement, ensuring supplier changes and material substitutions are evaluated

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience with engineering bills of materials and product structures.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with engineering changes and product configuration management.
• Ability to evaluate tradeoffs between performance, manufacturability, cost and supply chain risk.

Responsibilities

• Own engineering configuration management for UAV propulsion motors and assemblies.
• Maintain BOMs, material selections, component options, winding configurations, and product records.
• Own motor datasheets, specifications, winding databases, and release documents.
• Define and manage motor variants, product families, and customer configurations.
• Support sales by rapidly standing up new motor configurations and variants.
• Coordinate validation activities and supplier substitutions.
• Work with supply chain to implement engineering intent in procurement and manufacturing systems.
• Maintain product structures and part numbering for production and customer programs.
• Manage product data and engineering change workflows in Arena PLM.
• Establish scalable product definition and configuration management processes.
