Job summary

The Virginia Tech Mid Atlantic Aviation Partnership (MAAP) seeks a Systems Integration and Test Engineer to support uncrewed aerial system (UAS) and Counter UAS (C-UAS) research and testing. You will integrate complex systems, develop tests, and report results as part of MAAP’s engineering team in Blacksburg, VA.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, collaboration with flight operations, and ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards under the MAAP Chief Engineer.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree or Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field.
• Experience with engineering research and/or flight testing, preferably related to C-UAS systems.
• Experience with computer hardware, software, and/or networking.
• Good communication skills.
• Due to restrictions on funded projects, position is restricted to a US Citizen.
• Must have a good driving record and be able to lift/move equipment over 25 pounds; work in outdoor elements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and execute UAS research as a technical expert, enabling integration of complex systems.
• Develop test procedures and instrumentation; conduct tests and report results.
• Coordinate with engineering and flight operations teams under MAAP Chief Engineer guidance.
• Support diverse tasks related to UAS and C-UAS research, prioritizing practical outcomes.
