Qualifications

Job Summary:

The UAV Pilot/instructor will support the operation and training of Vanilla UAS. This role will oversee ground and flight operations during stateside training and overseas missions while providing technical support. The Senior UAV Pilot /Instructor will play a key role in mission success and program development through technical expertise and operational excellence. Additional duties will include emplacement, displacement, inspection, and repair of associated equipment as well as proper notation of logbooks and flight records. This position is expected to perform as a Subject Matter Expert on all aspects of UAS operations. Primary duties will require extensive travel, both domestically and internationally including deployments, test events and training exercises.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform flight operation planning in support of customer-driven requirements
  • Perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight safety checks
  • Remote pilot a UAS, following a specific flight plan or modifying flight plans to meet mission objectives
  • Deliver training programs to new UAV pilots, ensuring adherence to operational protocols and safety standards.
  • Support flight operations outside the continental United States for up to four (4) months at a time if needed
  • Conduct flight demonstrations for customers at remote locations
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues to maximize mission readiness
  • Ensure compliance with all FAA regulations as applicable
  • Directly interface with customer
  • Work in groups or independently with minimal or no supervision
  • Will be required to work odd shifts, weekends, and/or extended hours
  • Responsible for data management and generation
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and issues and determine technical solutions
  • Practice ISO 9001 principles and concepts
Requirements:
  • High school Diploma or GED and 2-5 years of manned/UAS flight experience or a combination of education and experience equivalent to a minimum of 4 years
  • 1 Year of flight Instruction or customer facing technical training experience
  • Must currently possess and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance.
  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret level security clearance.
  • Able to obtain FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
  • Up to 100% CONUS and OCONUS travel may be required
  • Comfortable operating a UAS in various weather and light conditions
  • Candidate must complete a U.S.-based three to five (3-5) week training program depending on crew position and platform experience.
  • Prior FMV sensor and payload operator experience is preferred
  • AVO’s must meet the requirements of the DCMA 8210.1D and receive a DD Form 2627 prior to starting training
  • Candidate must be able to perform the duties of a UAS Crewmember safely and effectively without supervision. Duties including flight and ground operations, as well as logbook entry and records keeping.
  • Candidate must have the ability to coordinate flight schedules and airspace, allocate resources, frequency deconfliction and execute other day-to-day aspects of flight operations.
  • Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, both verbally and in writing.
  • Candidate must possess strong leadership skills.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a government security clearance.
  • Candidate must possess a Current or ability to obtain an FAA Class II Medical Certificate
  • Successful completion of the UAS Training Course is a condition of continued employment on this program.
Preferred Skills and Education:

UAS Operators / Instructors, with Piccolo autopilot experience strongly preferred.

Experience operating UAS platforms that use PCC is highly relevant, including:

  • Jump 20
  • Outlaw
If candidates do not have direct Piccolo experience, Group 3/4/5 UAS experience is strongly preferred over small UAS or FPV backgrounds.
Baseline requirements across roles:
  • Active U.S. Secret clearance (TS eligible)
  • Deployment‑ready for OCONUS operations
  • 2–10 years of unmanned aviation experience (operations or maintenance)
  • Prefer prior military service
  • Familiarity with customer and expectations, policies, best practices, and high customer satisfaction orientation
