Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced UAS specialist to join our defense-focused team. You will serve as the subject-matter expert on Group 13 unmanned aircraft systems, autonomy, and emerging drone technologies, and you will design, build, configure, and troubleshoot small UAS and subsystems.

You will work with engineers, operators, and government stakeholders to support capability development, experimentation, and evaluations for Army and DoD UAS initiatives, including flying autonomous flight

Qualifications

• Degree or professional experience in a technical field.
• Minimum 5 years building, programming, configuring, flying, and troubleshooting FPV quads.
• Experience with open-source flight controllers (Betaflight, iNAV, ArduPilot, PX4).
• Proficient in C/C++ within CLI environments for flight control programming.
• Clear understanding of UAS power systems and flight performance limits.
• Active Secret Security Clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME on Group 13 UAS, autonomy, and drone tech.
• Design, build, configure, program, integrate, and troubleshoot UAS.
• Support DoD UAS capability development and evaluations.
• Program autonomous flight control systems using open-source software.
• Analyze UAS architectures, power, comms, payloads, and performance.
• Develop technical recommendations on design, autonomy, and mission planning.
• Collaborate with engineers, operators, and government stakeholders.
• Develop and execute technical plans based on requirements.
• Translate complex concepts into clear briefings and docs.
• Support capability requirements using DOTMLPF-P.
• Analyze data and metrics to support decisions.
• Participate in demonstrations, working groups, and customer engagements.
• Support process improvements and techno-transition activities.
• Travel up to 50% for meetings, testing, demos, and events.
