Position Overview
The Engineering Project Manager works under the direction of an Account Manager to deliver exceptional results on small to medium-sized client projects. This role has accountability for team management, project planning, budgeting, scheduling, resourcing, and meeting client specifications safely and with acceptable quality. It is a mid-level leadership role requiring a high degree of demonstrated leadership and technical competence.
Job Duties
- Plans, organizes, and executes projects to meet client scope while staying within budget, quality, and time constraints. Projects are low to medium in complexity and size.
- Partners with Senior Project Manager or Account Manager to deliver client outcomes, attending meetings, capturing action items, following up on issues, facilitating change management, and updating project deliverables and reports.
- Supervises Project Supervisors and/or Project Coordinators.
- Serves as the main contact for clients regarding project deliverables.
- Collaborates with field operations, other managers, and support staff to ensure project success.
- Troubleshoots and resolves large, complex issues.
- Assumes responsibility for the financial success of projects and develops recovery plans as needed.
- Ensures data and design integrity and overall project quality.
- Manages timely client billing and invoice approvals.
- Leads hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of team members.
- Addresses employee concerns, involving HR support when necessary.
- Participates in budget, proposal, and bid development.
- Provides training, skill development, and performance feedback.
- Sets team goals related to safety, quality, and time management.
- Mentors team members on engineering practices and client requirements.
- Prepares production reports and forecasts project timelines.
- Conducts onsite visits to identify challenges and improve processes.
- Partners with the Safety Team to conduct safety programs and investigations.
- Implements change management activities within the team.
- Creates and maintains process and procedures documentation.
- Trains others on document management systems and data privacy.
- Ensures proper maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Reacts safely in emergency situations and reports to supervisors.
- Participates in training events and travels up to 50% for project or meeting attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned and follows company policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 4-5 years of electric utility or telecommunications experience.
- 2 years in project management, planning, or construction management.
- High school diploma with at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and influence teams.
- Ability to prioritize tasks with limited supervision.
- Understanding of utility operations, processes, standards, and contracts.
- Experience in project planning or construction management.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including analyzing problems and implementing solutions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and data entry.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to perform complex arithmetic and follow detailed instructions.
