Job description

We are looking for a Research Technician I to join our Performance Materials team in Wyandotte.

The Performance Materials division is at the forefront of the much-needed sustainability transformation in plastics. Our experts co-create products with customers to bring innovations to major industry sectors such as transportation, consumer goods, industrial applications, and construction. These solutions contribute to a sustainable future by pushing the boundaries in thermal resistance, robustness, and lightweight applications.

You will be a member of the PM Research and Development Group supporting R&D and various polyurethane development groups. You will work with other team members to ensure all projects move forward according to the scheduled activities. You will be responsible for blending various chemicals into formulations for machine and outside customer trials.

During your straight day shift as a UA Research Technician I, you will
  • Conduct research, testing, and data collection related to polyurethane processing and product development.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues related to polyurethane processing equipment, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to develop and improve polyurethane formulations, processes, and technologies.
  • Maintain, operate, and repair laboratory equipment, including mixers, pumps, and mixheads used in polyurethane processing.
  • Provide technical support to the development and production teams to enhance process efficiency and product quality.
  • Document experimental procedures, results, and observations, ensuring accurate records are kept.
  • Perform routine maintenance on lab equipment and assist with equipment upgrades and modifications as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements in all laboratory and processing activities.
If you...
  • Hold a High school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess 3-5 years of hands-on experience in polyurethane processing and production.
  • Have 3-5 years of experience in troubleshooting and maintaining polyurethane processing equipment.
  • Have 5 plus years in material handling
  • Understand chemical processing techniques, including mixing, molding, and curing.
  • Have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Are able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
