The City of South Bend seeks an experienced Mechanic to perform mechanical repairs and fabrication for water system maintenance. You'll work in a maintenance shop and outdoors, undertaking responsibilities from equipment repair to operating heavy machinery, contributing to the maintenance of city facilities and infrastructure.
SALARY: $23.25 per hour.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs mechanical repairs and fabrication of materials for facilities, equipment, and water system maintenance. Receives and handles Water Works inventory materials. Assists Construction & Maintenance crews in all aspects of Water Works Distribution system repairs.

SCHEDULE: M-Th 6:00am-4:00 pm Summer, M-F 7:00am-3:00pm Winter, Schedule may vary based on departmental need.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is done in a maintenance shop environment and outdoors in all weather conditions. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, frequently works in wet and/or humid conditions, and is exposed to airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to electric shock. The noise in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
