Job summary

Reports to: Principal, Certified Professional
Part-Time / Hourly
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay
  • Certified Teacher: $35.00
  • Degree/Not certified: $25.00
  • No Degree/90 college hours: $22.00
  • No Degree/60 college hours: $19.00
  • No Degree/30 college hours: $16.00
  • No Degree/less than 30 college hours: $13.00

Tutors work up to 14.5 hours per week. Employment does not guarantee a minimum number of work hours. Tutors are placed according to individual areas of expertise.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provides individual and small group tutoring to students as needed for test preparation and readiness in core content areas.
  • Other duties as assigned may include working in supplemental assignments under special revenue funds or state compensatory education funds.
Safety
  • Follows established safety procedures (i.e., engages in no unsupervised activities with student participants, provides constant visual supervision of students, and so on).

Other Duties as Assigned
  • Performs all job related duties as assigned and in accordance to the Board rules, policies and regulations. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.

  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures (i.e., not eating anything that is not available to students, not consuming dinner provided to students, leading and monitoring students at all times, and so on).
  • Knowledge of content facts, concepts, theories, and principles that are being taught and learned.
  • Knowledge of multicultural diversity issues in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of instructing, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics.
  • Skill in critical thinking; using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Skill at the entry-college level, in writing, speaking, and interpersonal communication skills, including principles of English and grammar usage.
  • Skill in operating applicable software including email and word processing to status work assignments.
  • Skill in talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to respond promptly and appropriately to an emergency or crisis situation, as well as administer First Aid, if applicable.

Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  • Environment: Works in an office setting, and works outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); frequent exposure to noise; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to walk.
  • Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements. May be subject to adverse working conditions, including violent confrontations. Ability to defuse sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education: Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required; Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university preferred.
  • Certification/License: None.
  • Experience:
    • Strong Math OR English background, as evidenced by college transcripts.
    • Child care experience preferred; youth-development program experience preferred.
    • Any of the following or combination is preferred in no particular order:
      • Certified teacher.
      • Existing/returning college student.
      • Retired teacher.
  • Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.
    • Additional Requirement: Must be 18 years’ of age or older.
