Overview

Children's Aid Afterschool in Action Program / Teen Program at the Salome Urena Campus, funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), is an after‑school enrichment program operating Monday through Friday, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Students receive tutorial help for homework, additional educational instruction, social‑emotional learning, and the opportunity to engage in enriching sports and art‑based activities.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Program is available from September through June.

Responsibilities

• Understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
• Assist the Facilitator in supervising and caring for up to 20 children.
• Provide individual and group tutoring in reading, writing, mathematics, and study skills.
• Model teaching techniques and demonstrate characteristics that participants can learn from.
• Engage adolescents in fun learning activities; maintain a safe and respectful environment.
• Assist in developing classroom and behavioral management skills, and implementing professionally developed literacy‑based curriculum.
• Design, plan, and lead the implementation of special projects in and outside the program.
• Ensure orderly operation—supervise during supper, manage CA devices and equipment, and organize games.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and collaborate with other staff members in the program and in schools.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school student or pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree.
• At least one year experience working with children, tutoring, or teaching (highly preferred).
• Field of study in education or social work (preferred).
