Job summary

Westlake Chemical is seeking a Turnaround Superintendent to lead safe, efficient Turnarounds at our Louisiana site. You will own scope development, planning, scheduling, and post-event reviews to ensure asset reliability and business performance.

You will coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, and contractors, drive cost management, and maintain strong safety leadership across all tasks. This role requires extensive field leadership and stakeholder collaboration.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of maintenance, turnaround, or project execution in chemical/heavy industrial environments.
  • Proven leadership in safety, scheduling, and cross-functional coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for all site Turnarounds from initiation through closeout.
  • Drive scope development, scheduling, and execution with cost control.
  • Lead Turnaround Steering Team meetings and ensure alignment across stakeholders.

This role is a major event leadership position focused on delivering high-quality Turnarounds that meet safety, schedule, cost, and reliability objectives. The Turnaround Superintendent drives a structured, disciplined Turnaround process, ensuring alignment across Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, and contractor organizations. The position serves as a point of accountability for Turnaround execution, ensuring work is properly scoped, planned, scheduled, and executed to support long-term asset reliability and business performance.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMay include, but are not limited to, the following:Turnaround Leadership & Execution (PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITY)Provide overall leadership and accountability for all site Turnarounds from initiation through closeoutOwn execution performance across all phases: scope development, planning, scheduling, execution, and post-event reviewLead the Turnaround core team to ensure alignment, coordination, and execution readinessEnsure Turnarounds are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all company policies and proceduresScope Development & Work Process DisciplineDrive development of Turnaround scope premise and ensure complete, well-defined work scope prior to scope freezeEnforce scope control processes and manage scope changes after freeze with clear governanceEnsure compliance with established Turnaround Work Process standards and expectationsPartner with Maintenance and Reliability to ensure scope supports asset strategy and long-term reliability improvementsPlanning, Scheduling & IntegrationLead development of integrated Turnaround schedules across Operations, Maintenance, and ProjectsEnsure schedules are resource-loaded, realistic, and aligned with execution constraints and business prioritiesDefine and manage critical path and competing critical paths to minimize schedule riskPartner with Planning & Scheduling to ensure job readiness, material availability, and execution feasibilityExecution Management & Field LeadershipProvide field leadership during Turnaround execution, ensuring strong coordination across all crafts and contractorsDrive execution discipline, including work prioritization, productivity, quality, and adherence to scheduleIdentify and remove barriers to execution performance in real timeEnsure effective deployment and oversight of contract labor and service providersCost Management & Financial AccountabilityDevelop and manage Turnaround budgets, forecasts, and cost trackingEnsure Turnarounds are executed within approved budget constraints and business expectationsProvide accurate cost forecasting and reporting throughout all phases of the TurnaroundDrive cost optimization through effective planning, contracting strategies, and execution disciplineSafety, Environmental & Compliance LeadershipProvide visible safety leadership and ensure all Turnaround activities are executed safely and in compliance with regulatory and company requirementsEnsure development and execution of comprehensive EH&S plans for TurnaroundsReinforce strong safety culture across employees and contractorsCross-Functional CoordinationServe as the primary interface between Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, Supply Chain, and contractorsLead Turnaround Steering Team meetings and Phase-Gate reviews to ensure alignment and decision-makingFacilitate coordination of priorities, resources, and constraints across all stakeholdersPerformance Management & Continuous ImprovementEstablish and track Turnaround KPIs (safety, schedule adherence, cost, scope completion, productivity)Lead post-Turnaround reviews to identify lessons learned and improvement opportunitiesEnsure Turnaround plans, data, and performance metrics are captured and archived for future eventsDrive continuous improvement in Turnaround processes, execution practices, and organizational capabilityEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONSMinimum 10+ years of maintenance, turnaround, or project execution experience in a chemical or heavy industrial environmentProven experience leading major maintenance events or Turnarounds in an industrial settingDemonstrated leadership in safety, execution management, and cross-functional coordinationStrong understanding of Turnaround processes, planning and scheduling, project controls, and cost managementExperience working with contractors and managing large-scale field executionStrong leadership, communication, and organizational skillsWorking knowledge of SAP or similar CMMS systems preferred Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.
