Job summary

The Boring Company is seeking skilled Tunnel Laborers to support daily production inside the TBM environment in the Nashville area. This boots-on-ground role collaborates with mechanics, electricians, and operators to muck, install ground support, and maintain safety underground.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in underground mining or tunneling, can work rotating shifts, and are comfortable in rugged, noisy, low-light settings.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in underground mining, tunneling or heavy civil construction.
• Understanding of underground safety protocols and confined spaces.
• Able to work in loud, rugged, low-light environments.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Support tunneling operations from cutterhead to backup, muck handling and ventilation.
• Load, unload and handle ground support materials like rock bolts, mesh and shotcrete.
• Operate equipment such as locomotives, forklifts, telehandlers, and jacklegs in tunnels.
• Inspect and maintain safety of the work area and report ground conditions.
• Assist with TBM launches, ring rebuilds, tail shield cleaning, and other production tasks.
• Perform shift handovers and communicate clearly with crew while following safety protocols underground.

Job description

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.

We’re seeking skilled Tunnel Laborers to operate inside the belly of the beast - supporting daily production on a Main Beam Tunnel Boring Machine cutting through hard rock. This role is boots-on-ground and central to keeping the TBM advancing. You’ll work in close coordination with mechanics, electricians, and operators to support mucking, ground support, conveyor systems, and general tunnel operations.

Responsibilities

• Support tunneling operations from the cutterhead to the backup, including muck handling, ventilation, utilities, and conveyor systems
• Load, unload, and handle ground support materials such as rock bolts, mesh, and shotcrete
• Operate equipment such as locomotives, forklifts, telehandlers, and jacklegs in the tunnel environment
• Inspect and maintain safety of the work area, report ground conditions, and install ground control as required
• Assist with TBM launches, ring rebuilds, tail shield cleaning, and other production-critical tasks
• Perform shift handovers, communicate clearly with crew members, and follow all safety protocols underground

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in underground mining, tunneling, or heavy civil construction
• Prior work with Main Beam TBMs or similar hard rock mining operations preferred
• Strong understanding of underground safety procedures and confined space work
• Physically fit and comfortable working in rugged, noisy, and low-light environments
• Willingness to work rotating shifts and overtime as needed to support tunneling progress
