Remote Per Diem Tumor Registrar- CTR

Baystate Health, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and safety, and home to Baystate Medical Center (BMC),and the region's only level 1 trauma center, providing services throughout western Massachusetts is looking for a Remote, Per Diem Tumor Registrar.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

D’Amour Center for Cancer Care provides integrated cancer care for adult and pediatric patients. The care team includes physicians and clinical staff, cancer survivors, community cancer support activists and community members, who put their hearts and souls into designing and delivering the optimal patient experience. Baystate is the only comprehensive cancer program – including leukemia, pediatric cancer, and gynecologic cancer care – and the only clinical research program in western Massachusetts.

SCHEDULE:

  • Remote -Per Diem– Flexible Hours

Current States eligible for remote: CT, FL, MD, NH, NC, OH, RI, TN, TX, VT, VA, MA

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains data abstracting within acceptable American College of Surgeons standards.
  • Maintains reporting to the Massachusetts State Cancer Registry according to SOP.
  • Maintains appropriate procedures to be in compliance with the American College of Surgeons standards.
  • Maintains procedures for retrieving, abstracting, and disseminating data utilized in the preparation of audits for studies and statistical reports. Maintains procedure manuals in accordance with state regulations and American College of Surgeons standards.
  • Reviewing and analyzing hospital records and other medical reports for relevant cancer data; determining and classifying demographics, primary site, histology, stage, and treatment on all cancer sites
  • Arranges for Tumor Committee meetings in association with Tumor Registry Associates.
  • Performs audits and special studies for medical staff.
  • Prepares information for the Senior Research Nurse Coordinator as directed for the feasibility of research studies. Prepares and submits information for the Tumor Registry Annual Report under the guidance of the Medical Director.
  • Identifies, registers patients diagnosed with malignant disease abstracts data into MRS and follow up appropriately.
  • Assists in developing outcome measurements and PI indicators.

SKILLS & COMPENTECIES

  • Ability to analyze medical documents (including hospital records and computerized reports) to classify and code cancer data.
  • Ability to abstract complex cancer sites.
  • Ability to work with various computer systems including Windows applications and networked systems for data collection, and report production.
  • Must have good attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s Degree and 3 or more years of related experience in HIM, and data abstraction.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology; anatomy, pathology, physiology experience required.
  • Exceptional skills with computer navigation, data entry
  • Tumor Registrar Certification (CTR) preferred or must be obtained within two years. (One year to meet the experience criteria of sitting for the exam and one year to be able to study and pass the exam.)
