The Direct Care Worker (DCW) or Attendant Care Worker functions in an assistive role in the provisions of non-skilled patient care services through regular assignments or delegated tasks and is monitored by an assigned supervisor. The DCW demonstrates the ability to carry out specific tasks with reasonable skill and safety that adheres to the prevailing standard of practice in the home and community setting(s)..

The work environment is highly variable, as care is generally provided in private homes. Lighting, acoustics, air quality, temperature and environment hazards are not predictable.
