JOB CLASSIFICATION

Machine Operator – Tube Handler/Yarn Salvage Operator

POSITION REPORTS TO:

Senior Production Manager

The operator is responsible for identifying non-conformities in the Quality System related to their area of responsibility and reporting them to the Production Manager, P.I. Department, or ISO Management representative.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify yarn tube color and recognize defective yarns.
  • Push cart to production floor.
  • Cut yarn from tubes, recycle mixed or damaged yarn.
  • Ensure proper stock identification.
  • Doff full packages; place doffed packages with correct blend and lot number.
  • Operate tugger.
  • Use compressed air to blow off.
  • Place empty tubes into holder.
  • Place packages on creel pin for rewinding.
  • Label tubes.
  • Reel off yarn on each returned tube.
  • Ensure correct placement of labels in tubes.
  • Sort damaged or cracked tubes for recycling.
  • Stack empty boxes and pallet bottoms as needed.
  • Sort strapping from tube boxes.
  • Clean work area.
  • Operate back winder as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to read and recognize all colors.
  • Operate air hose and broom.
  • Push and pull, lifting as needed.
  • Operate tugger and printer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Tugger experience.
  • Operator experience.
  • Back winder experience.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Operate tugger.
  • Use utility knife.
  • Finger dexterity.
AUTHORIZED TRAINING TIME

On-the-job training.

  • Utility knife.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
  • Ear plugs.
  • Steel toe safety shoes.
  • Safety glasses.
  • Cut-resistant gloves and sleeves.
  • Dust mask.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Standing/walking approximately 8 hours per day (95%).
  • Sitting for about 10% of the day.
  • Moving throughout the plant (95%).
  • Lifting 4-10 lbs. packages (25%).
  • Climbing to top of range (approx. 16 ft) (35%).
  • Push/pull 8-12 lbs. force, reach 55-60 inches, perform repetitive motions (95%).
  • Bending to pick objects from the floor (95%).
  • Read labels and complete forms (100%).
WORK ENVIRONMENT / SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION

This role operates in a manufacturing facility, working around moving mechanical parts and powered industrial vehicles. Noise levels are loud, temperatures can exceed 100°F, and humidity can be over 98%.

SHIFT/WORK HOURS

Typically, 7 AM – 3 PM. Schedule may vary based on open positions and business needs. Weekends and holidays may be scheduled accordingly.
