Job summary

UMass Amherst's Technology Transfer Office is seeking a Manager, Operations & Finance to oversee financial operations, IP records, and compliance across the office’s technology commercialization activities. You will collaborate with TTO leadership, faculty, and external counsel to ensure accurate budgeting, reporting, and lifecycle management of inventions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with four (4) years of relevant experience.
• Experience managing budgets and financial operations.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with a focus on collaboration.
• Outstanding organizational skills, high level of attention to detail, analytical ability, able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team, meeting deadlines.
• Intermediate proficiency with MS Office applications, including Excel and Word.
• High degree of discretion; experience managing confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with the TTO Director to implement strategic initiatives and refine workflows; manages IP records, contracts, and data systems.
• Manages operational and patent budget administration, forecasting, and reporting to support financial planning and resource allocation.
• Oversees the IP portfolio lifecycle, including disclosures, filings, and coordination with external counsel.
• Ensures compliance with IP policies, sponsor obligations, and regulatory reporting (e.g., iEdison).
• Provides guidance on IP processes, responds to inquiries, and supports staff activities.
• Maintains licensee performance and reimbursement processes, and supports personnel-related administrative functions.
