Job summary

D2 Consulting is seeking a PostgreSQL Database Engineer/Administrator to own the database stack across transactional and analytical workloads, primarily in OpenShift environments. You will partner with software and systems teams to ensure reliability, security, and scalable performance.

The role requires an active TS/SCI clearance and five+ years in database work, with hands-on PostgreSQL, data modeling, backups, and HA/DR.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain a polygraph.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent.
• Five or more years in database administration, engineering, or architecture.
• Hands-on PostgreSQL administration experience.
• Relational database design, data modeling, SQL, indexing, and query optimization.
• Experience with backups, restores, upgrades, and maintenance.
• High availability, replication, and disaster recovery concepts.
• Collaboration with developers and infrastructure teams to resolve issues.

Responsibilities

• Administer PostgreSQL databases: config, users, roles, maintenance, patching.
• Design and refine schemas, data models, indexing strategies, and access patterns.
• Analyze SQL queries and execution plans; optimize performance.
• Support PostgreSQL deployments in OpenShift environments and integration.
• Maintain backup/restore procedures and validate recoveries.
• Monitor database health: logging, alerts, capacity tracking, reporting.
• Collaborate with developers on schema design and data access.
• Plan upgrades, migrations, and modernization efforts with minimal disruption.
• Document architecture, configurations, security controls, and procedures.
• Maintain database security and least-privilege access.
• Provide technical guidance to engineering teams.
