Job Overview
A prominent law firm is seeking a skilled Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney to provide high-quality legal services to high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses. The attorney will collaborate with senior legal professionals, assisting with estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters. The ideal candidate will possess experience in complex estate and trust issues, with a commitment to client service and legal excellence.
Duties
- Provide legal counsel to clients on estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters.
- Draft, review, and finalize estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives.
- Advise clients on estate tax minimization strategies and asset protection.
- Assist in estate and trust administration, including legal document preparation, asset management, and dispute resolution.
- Conduct legal research on estate planning, tax law, and probate law developments.
- Collaborate with financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to develop comprehensive estate plans.
- Represent clients in probate and trust court proceedings when necessary.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication.
Requirements
- 4-6+ years of experience as a Trusts and Estates Attorney.
- Admission to the New York Bar (or ability to waive in) required; additional admissions to Connecticut and/or Massachusetts Bar are a plus.
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Proven experience in drafting estate planning documents, including trusts, and handling complex estate and trust administration.
- Experience with estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns.
- Familiarity with probate court proceedings involving fiduciaries and beneficiaries.
- Exceptional written communication skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills for effective client and colleague interactions.
- High organizational ability to prioritize tasks and manage heavy workloads.
- Ability to quickly absorb and apply new information.
- Professional, cooperative, and flexible attitude.
Education
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
Certifications
- Admission to the New York Bar (or ability to waive in).
- Additional state bar admissions (CT/MA) are advantageous.
