Job summary

Ball-Chatham CUSD #5 is seeking a Substitute Bus Driver to provide safe student transportation across the district. This role requires following district policies, performing pre-trip inspections, and reporting issues to the Director of Transportation.

Qualifying candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 21, pass fingerprint background check, and hold an Illinois CDL. The position supports daily operations with a flexible schedule and a focus on student safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Pass fingerprint background check.
• Must be 21 years’ old; Drivers must hold an Illinois CDL Driver’s License.
• Must maintain Illinois Secretary of State requirements to become and remain a school bus driver in Illinois.

Responsibilities

• Attends yearly refresher course.
• Passes yearly physical examination and drug testing; participates in random drug testing.
• Completes a daily pre-trip inspection report before the first trip of each day and anytime a different bus is driven.
• Notifies mechanics, in writing, of any mechanical problems with a bus, daily.
• Schedules preventative maintenance every 3,000 miles (oil change).
• Keeps the bus clean inside and out.
• Maintains adequate discipline to assure the safety of passengers; reports misconduct to the Director of Transportation.
• Notifies the Director of Transportation immediately if there is a breakdown or bus accident; follows all procedures.
• Maintains a route sheet and map and ensures their accuracy at all times.
